Fake Julian Perretta
Julian Perretta: Plagiarist?

Over the last month or so, Julian Perretta has been accused by many within Twitter’s user community of plagiarism. The evidence was pretty conclusive with him even admitting that he posted other’s tweets and apologizing, but, of course, continuing to post other people’s tweets including one of the top tweets of all time.

Read the posts below, look at the images, and decide for yourself.

If you have any “evidence” of plagiarism, please email it - links, screenshots, etc. - to fakejulianperretta@gmail.com.

Last week in Los Angeles I participated in a live Q&A as part of an ASCAP expo on songwriting. When the topic of Twitter came up, I explained my waning interest in it being part of my daily life. By no means do I think it’s over as a medium altogether, but I do think that the days of “Twitter: The…

I find it interesting, John, that a lot of artist aspire to be like you. You are a phenomenal musician with my favorite song still being Your Body Is A Wonderland, but simply because that was the towards the start of your career and I saw you perform it at SunFest in West Palm Beach. Still, you have a reputation as a douche - although I’ve heard some interviews with you and you really didn’t sound too douchey. Anyways, as douchey as you may or may not be, other “artists” like @julianperretta want to be “you”.

Recently, Julian Perretta was accused of plagiarism by the Twitter user community. You can find more about that here and here. My question to you is: would you ever plagiarize something like a tweet? Sure, “it’s just a tweet”, but copying someone else’s original idea is still plagiarism, right? I don’t think you would, but would love to hear your thoughts.

Dedicated to @julianperretta because every once in a while everyone needs a little pick me up…

Chorus:
Oooh, Julian…
The way you touch my tweets
Makes me feel so dirty
Like a broken hymen
At a Tijuana donkey show

You came into our lives
With your crazy hair
And your stolen tweets
And…

It was only a matter of time before he started lifting stuff from songs. (That’s a Rush lyric, by the way — a simple Google search turned that up.)
Does he have ZERO concept of attribution?
Nevermind. I know the answer to that.

Yay! @julianperretta is back!

By now, you’ve heard the great news: @julianperretta is back! Sadly, the truth of the matter is that everyone knew it would just be a matter of time. Regardless, he and his record label had to go through some hoops to have his account reinstated after enough people banned together in various ways, which ultimately led to his account be suspended.

His account is no longer “Verified”, which, to me, means that Twitter recognized what he was doing and, in good consciousness, couldn’t allow him that status any longer. He also, very likely, had to cross his heart and hope to die that he wouldn’t plagiarze ever again.

Hopefully, he understand that he is vulnerable and that he will be watched very closely by the Twitter community. He took the collective power of the community for granted, which is a shame.

If you see any suspected plagiarism from @julianperretta - regardless if it is from another user, a movie, a song, Anne Frank’s diary, etc. - please send links/screenshots/sources, etc. to fakejulianperretta@gmail.com.

@julianperretta’s Twitter account has been suspended.
We can all agree that he will create a new account and likely post tweets “uncredited” again in the future, but this is a small victory.

Plagiarism Exposed

I am not Julian Perretta nor am I pretending to be Julian Perretta. You will find Julian Perretta at @julianperretta on Twitter.

Julian Perretta, a recording artist and Twitter Verified User, has repeatedly posted other Twitter users’ tweets without giving the original author’s credit, which is a violation of Twitter’s Terms of Service and, more concerning, plagiarism.

When he was confronted with allegations that he plagiarized tweets, he laughed it off and continued to post other users’ tweets. It was only when tweets were directed to his record label that he admitted - via tweets and Direct Messages - that he had been posting other users’ tweets without giving credit, apologized, and said he would no longer do it. Unfortunately, he continued to post other users’ tweets including plagiarizing a tweet to use in his bio at one point.

Julian Perretta is a recording artist. As an artist, he should recognize the importance and value of creative integrity. Unfortunately, he’s shown complete disregard. He’s said it would stop. It didn’t stop. How can he be trusted?

If you have identified tweets of your own or other users that have been plagiarized, @reply to @julianperreta or e-mail fakejulianperretta@gmail.com with links and/or screenshots.
